Moving in Dubai During Summer: How to Survive It

Nobody moves in a Dubai August by choice. But tenancy contracts do not care about the weather, and a large share of moves land squarely in the worst of it. Here is how to make that survivable.

Move early, genuinely early

A 6am start is not enthusiasm, it is strategy. Between June and September the useful working window is roughly 5am to 11am. After midday, crew output drops sharply, the risk of heat exhaustion is real, and the inside of a closed truck can pass 60°C.

UAE law also mandates a midday break for outdoor work through the summer months, so any crew still lifting boxes at 1pm in July is either breaking the rules or working somewhere fully air conditioned.

What the heat actually damages

• Candles, crayons and cosmetics — these genuinely liquefy. Move them in your own air-conditioned car or accept the loss.
• Vinyl records and photographs — warp and stick together permanently above roughly 40°C.
• Electronics — laptops, consoles and TVs should never sit in a hot truck longer than necessary. Transport them yourself where you can.
• Wooden furniture — repeated heat and humidity cycling splits joints and lifts veneer.
• Wine and olive oil — a few hours at truck temperature is enough to ruin both.
• Pressurised cans and aerosols — a genuine burst risk, and most movers will refuse to carry them.
• Medication — most needs storing below 25°C. It travels with you.

The condensation problem nobody warns about. Bringing a cold item into humid outdoor air makes it sweat instantly — the same effect as a cold glass on a summer table. Give electronics 30 to 60 minutes to reach room temperature at the new property before switching anything on. Powering up a laptop with condensation inside it is how a straightforward move ends in a dead machine.

Looking after the crew

This is not just decency, it is self-interest — a hydrated crew is a careful crew. Keep cold water available throughout. If your AC is already disconnected at the old property, say so when booking so the schedule accounts for it.

And keep the AC running at the new property from the day before, not from the moment you arrive. A villa that has been closed up in July needs hours to come down to a workable temperature, and unloading into a 40°C house helps nobody.

Practical summer scheduling

1. Book the earliest slot available — 5am or 6am starts are standard in summer.
2. Confirm both buildings will release the service lift at that hour.
3. Run the AC at the destination from the previous evening.
4. Load a personal box of heat-sensitive items into your own car.
5. Keep cold water at both properties.
6. Plan to unpack over several days rather than pushing through in one afternoon.

Handled properly, a summer move is entirely manageable. Handled as though it were a winter move that happens to be warm, it is miserable and things get broken.
